HEAD START CENTER BASED ASSISTANT TEACHER/BUS DRIVER (Single Session) JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION
Summary:
ICAP is a private, non-profit agency mobilizing private and public sector resources to help low and moderate income people improve their living conditions.
The Head Start division is a federal program for preschool children from low-income families.
Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities, and services offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities.
The Head Start Assistant Teacher/Bus Driver will be actively engaged in the creation and implementation of developmentally appropriate, comprehensive educational plans that support the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social growth of three, four and five year old children from diverse backgrounds in accordance with the Head Start Act (December 12, 2007), the Head Start Curriculum, School Readiness Curriculum and Goals, Indiana Foundations, and the Child Outcomes Framework.
The Assistant Teacher/Bus Driver will be responsible for the safe transporting of children to and from school.
REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate or equivalent Be willing to obtain an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education Previous interactive experience with young children Must become CDL trained and licensed Consent to and successful review of a limited Criminal History review, National Sex Offender check and FBI finger printing Must possess a valid driver's license; consent to and successful review of a BMV license review Must have reliable transportation and vehicle liability coverage DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Perform all services as directed by Director of Children's Services; all services to be completed emphasizing excellent customer service Knowledge of and have the ability to reference Head Start Performance Standards Contribute to the creation and implementation of developmentally appropriate lesson plans based on established curriculum and program requirements Provide support for the assessment and documentation of continual student growth; adherence to timeliness and accuracy of reporting requirements Contribute to an environment of acceptance that supports and respects the gender, culture, language, ethnicity, and personal limitations of each child and their families Actively participate in the student recruitment effort Engage in individualized professional development opportunities as well as program-based and agency-wide training activities Maintain established classroom cleanliness standards and appropriate learning center configurations Adhere to all laws, rules, and regulations pertinent to Indiana School Bus operation and ICAP Transportation Policies Practice high standards of professional behavior that align with Head Start and agency values and mission Effective communication skills Work well independently and as a team member cooperating with department and agency staff, general public, customers, and families; ability to exercise independent and decisive judgements Must have project management skills and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize; be self-directed, highly motivated, energetic, enthusiastic and dependable General administrative skills and abilities needed including basic computer skills and knowledge of software such as MS Word, Excel, and other program specific software All other duties as assigned PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Primary working environment is climate controlled classroom Ability to interact physically with young children including but not limited to:
lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, stretching, running and squatting.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports to the classroom teacher but also receives directives from the Educational Coordinator.

Reduction in the workforce resulting in job elimination may become necessary due to reorganization or loss of program funds.
